The Story Behind The Lens

Who

Hi! My name is Kevin Lin and I’m a wildlife and pet photographer based in Western NY.
My love for nature and wildlife extends beyond photography. I enjoy discovering new places, observing the world around me, and sharing those experiences with others.
If you ever want to join me for a hike or a birding adventure, don't hesitate to reach out! I always enjoy meeting fellow outdoor enthusiasts and sharing time in nature.

“Crocodiles are easy. They try to kill and eat you. People are harder. Sometimes they pretend to be your friend first.”
Steve Irwin

What
Photography, for me, is driven by curiosity and wonder. It encourages me to explore my surroundings with intention and to see the world a little more closely.
Time spent in nature gives me a chance to step away from my daily distractions and to focus on what really matters: reconnecting with myself and restoring my balance.

When
I had always been interested in photography since high school, but I never committed to it. I began studying photography in February of 2025. A few months later, I bought my first camera, a Canon T5i.
I quickly fell in love with the craft and dedicated many hours each week to learning and practicing different genres. That summer, a moment capturing a duck in flight sparked my deep passion for wildlife photography.
From there, a brown-headed cowbird was the “spark” bird that drew me fully into birding.
"To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour."
William Blake

Where
I most frequently visit the Audubon Community Nature Center in Chautauqua County. When I’m looking for more remote or less developed areas, I head to North Harmony State Forest or other nearby NYSDEC lands.
I also bring my camera whenever I travel or go sightseeing, and I’ll often go out of my way to visit locations where sightings have been reported.

Why
I continue to love photography because it was something I could hold onto while my life was falling apart. It quieted the noise when my mind was loud and gave me space to exist without being overwhelmed.
Out in nature, everything felt clearer. I wasn’t trying to fix anything. I was simply observing, breathing. That focus became my foundation when I needed it most.
Over time, it grew beyond a practice and helped me find my way back to myself.

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”
David Attenborough

How

My style is warm and grounded, with an approach to editing that enhances the focal points.
I photograph outdoors using only natural light. Focusing on genuine interactions as they unfold, I try to capture emotion and tell stories in ways that feel honest.
The images I value most are the ones that aren't forced—they simply happen.
